Coming Together for the First Days of Summer

Coming together from 14 states, energy workers have put in long hours and braved the heat and humidity to restore power to thousands of St. Paul/Minneapolis residents.  Two nasty squalls tore through the metro area last weekend (Friday & Sunday) leaving many down trees in its wake.  Thousands were without power.  I can only imagine, in the heat/humidity – ick, how crappy that job must be.

I spied all of the bucket trucks parked in a Sears parking lot Monday morning.  They were still there Friday morning getting ready to go at it for another day.  At its worst, 610,000 Xcel Energy customers were without power.  By Tuesday morning most had power restored, but roughly 19,000 still remained without power.  This was a record outage; more than double of that in 2007.  I wonder what it is like coordinating all those trucks to get that monstrous job done.
